Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle ~ 2013
Master
01.53
Andrew, son of Zebedee and the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the first called by Jesus to follow him as his disciple. St. Andrew was known for starting the Eastern Catholic Churches. Andrew is patron of Russia.
Andrew in tradition is believed to have died by crucifixion at Patras, Achaia in southern Greece where he was bound, not nailed, to an X-shaped cross, which came to be known as the Cross of St Andrew. It was done at his own request as he felt not worthy to be crucified on a cross like Jesus.
Novena to St. Andrew
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.
(It is piously believed that whoever recites the above prayer fifteen times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (30 November) until Christmas will obtain what is asked.)
St. Andrew, Apostle (Feast)
Reading
Romans 10: 9 - 18 | |
9 | because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. |
10 | For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. |
11 | The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." |
12 | For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. |
13 | For, "every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." |
14 | But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? |
15 | And how can men preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!" |
16 | But they have not all obeyed the gospel; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" |
17 | So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ. |
18 | But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have; for "Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." |
Psalm
Psalms 19: 8 - 11 | |
8 | the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; |
9 | the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. |
10 | More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. |
11 | Moreover by them is thy servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. |
Gospel
Matthew 4: 18 - 22 | |
18 | As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. |
19 | And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." |
20 | Immediately they left their nets and followed him. |
21 | And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zeb'edee and John his brother, in the boat with Zeb'edee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. |
22 | Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him. |

Feast Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (Solemnity) ~ 2013
Master
22.45
The Feast of Christ the King is a moveable feast. It is celebrated on the final Sunday of the liturgical year, which is the last Sunday before Advent starts. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925. This solemnity comes at the end of the liturgical year and brings together the mystery of Jesus firstborn from the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. It is celebrated in the Roman Catholic church in honour of Jesus Christ as lord over all creation and it is also observed in Lutheran, Anglican, and other Protestant churches. During every Advent season, we the faithful await the "coming King", the King of peace and the light of hope that takes away the darkness forever at the Nativity of our Lord Jesus and also for the second coming of the Lord as which marks the end of times. Jesus was born of Judah tribe of Kings, came to serve all and his kingdom is divine. Today we are honouring Jesus the King who humbled himself in order to raise us up to the status of the Sons of God, a king who suffered the cruellest of deaths as a sacrificial Lamb of God so that we could have an unending life of happiness when we leave this earth at end of times when Jesus will come as the Lion of Judah, the righteous King and Judge.
Philippians 2:10-11
At the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Almighty ever-living God, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of the universe, grant, we pray, that the whole creation, set free from slavery, may render your majesty service and ceaselessly proclaim your praise. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (Solemnity)
Reading 1
2 Samuel 5: 1 - 3 | |
1 | Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, "Behold, we are your bone and flesh. |
2 | In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you that led out and brought in Israel; and the LORD said to you, `You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.'" |
3 | So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel. |
Psalm
Psalms 122: 1 - 5 | |
1 | I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD!" |
2 | Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! |
3 | Jerusalem, built as a city which is bound firmly together, |
4 | to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. |
5 | There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David. |
Reading 2
Colossians 1: 12 - 20 | |
12 | giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. |
13 | He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, |
14 | in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. |
15 | He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; |
16 | for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities -- all things were created through him and for him. |
17 | He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. |
18 | He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent. |
19 | For in him all the fulness of God was pleased to dwell, |
20 | and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. |
Gospel
Luke 23: 35 - 43 | |
35 | And the people stood by, watching; but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!" |
36 | The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him vinegar, |
37 | and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!" |
38 | There was also an inscription over him, "This is the King of the Jews." |
39 | One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!" |
40 | But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? |
41 | And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." |
42 | And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." |
43 | And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." |
Prayer to Christ the King
O Christ Jesus, I acknowledge Thee to be the King of the universe: all that has been made is created for Thee. Exercise over me all Thy sovereign rights. I hereby renew the promises of my Baptism, renouncing Satan and all his works and pomps, and I engage myself to lead henceforth a truly Christian life. And in an especial manner do I undertake to bring about the triumph of the rights of God and Thy Church, so far as in me lies. Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee my poor actions to obtain the acknowledgment by every heart of Thy sacred Kingly power. In such wise may the kingdom of Thy peace be firmly established throughout all the earth. Amen.
